Do you believe in dragons?

This is a question that pops up every once in a while, and I'm sure that a lot of you out there are familiar with it. Whilst a few people will deny their existance, there are quite a few who will defend that the beasts did at one point in time exsist, and that they were either wiped out by the humans, or went into hiding to conserve their numbers. Some people will even go to the ends of the earth to try to find exsistance that dragons were real, only to come home empty handed.

However for one person who was trying to prove their exsistance, they would stumble upon something that would change their life forever.

It was a dark, January night. It was snowing on and off in what some people had dubbed the worst snowstorm in some 30-40 years. And one young adult was sitting at his computer, checking his messages and emails from friends.

Peter sat on his bed with his laptop in front of him, chatting to several of his friends as he worked on a story at the same time, something he was writing for a friend as part of an art trade. It was getting late as he noticed the clock tick 1 AM. He was about to call it a night when a MSN email alert popped up from the bottom right of the screen, the small text reading 'You have received a new email from 'The Dragon God''

"The dragon god?" He mused as he brought the mouse pointer to it, clicking it as a new tab opened in his browser, loading the email page up. He looked at the email, and noticed the subject line:

Do you believe in dragons, Peter?

He was pondering how the sender knew his name, but then thought that it was most likely from his email, which his name showed up when his address was typed in. He decided to read over the message.

I heard that you are a big lover of dragons, so I thought I would share a bit of top secret information with you.

I heard that there was a recent dragon sighting in the Northern Medium Mountains in Hungary. I know it is a bit far away from you, but seeing you are what some people would call a 'fanatic', I thought i would let you know.

If you are interested, I have included a link to an airport booking site where you can book a cheap flight over there. I found you a nice cheap flight for £30, and the location of a nice bed and breakfast where you can spend a night or two whilst you research this claim.

There is no real need to thank me, I just thought you might find this piece of info quite valuable. I'd advise booking quickly in case anyone trys to get there before you, rumors of dragon sightings spread like wildfire after all.

Good luck!

"A dragon sighting, eh..." He pondered to himself, clicking the link and finding himself looking at a travel website. He found a cheap flight that was leaving on Friday, and would get him back for Sunday evening, meaning he wouldn't miss any of his college time if he went at that ime.

"Ah what the hell, it'll be better than my normal routine!" He chuckled and booked the flight. He booked it for Friday, an hour or two after his last lesson of the day. He got everything he would need packed in advance, as he would have to take his case with him to college on the day.

Time passed, and come Friday, he was on the plane to Hungary. He had changed up a bit of his money into the local currency, and had made a booking for a bed and breakfast in the nearby town of Presov, which the mountains nearby were part of a hiking trail. From his room in the hostel, he looked towards the mountains with a small smile. "If there really is a dragon out there, I'm gonna be the one to find it."

The next morning after breakfast, Peter decided to get a move on and made his way towards the mountains. He was able to hitch a ride to the base of the mountains, but aside from that, he was going to be alone on his trek. He made sure he had packed well for the journey, his backpack filled with food, drink, binoculars and a camera, as well as a map of the mountains. The email had not told him where in the mountain range where the dragon had been spotted, so he had to keep his eyes open for any caves.

"This place really is beautiful..." He commented, looking all around him whilst snapping some pictures. The mountain areas were covered by lush trees and greenery, and the birds were flitting about among the treetops. "Even if I don't find the dragon, this makes the trip worth it."

He had been in the mountains for a good few hours now. He had taken a short break to get off his feet, getting some sandwiches from his bag and tucking into them. He got out his camera and took a few images of the surrounding area before continuing on his way. Eventually he made his way to the peak of one of the mountains, and from the top he was able to see almost everything in the valey of Lillafured.

"I've looked almost everywhere, and I haven't found one thing that could lead me to it..." He lamented a little as he took in the scenery. "Guess I should make my way back down now."

He was about to take a step back down the path that led him to the peak, when his eyes caught sight of another nearby pathway, one which was almost invisible from view due to the fauna around him.

"Could this lead me to what I seek?" He pondered as he followed it carefully. The pathway lead him away from the normal road, and curved around the side of the mountain, the path above becoming hidden from view as the trees surrounded it, only a few beams of light were able to penetrate through the leaves.

It seemed to go on forever due to the lack of light shining down on the path, but eventually he found where it lead to, and it was something a little out of the ordinary. In front of him was the entrance to what looked like a cave, and from the looks of how it was dug out, it seemed to go in quite deep. Even more amazing was that there was asmll clearing near the cave entrance, the trees parting to allow for an airborne creature to access it without much problem.

"This must be it!" Peter grinned, giddy with excitement as he carefully stepped into the cave. He had to be careful in case a dragon really was in there, as he had no idea what to expect. The creature would either try to befriend the human, or in the worst case scenario, eat him alive. Peter had prepared for that though, as he had a couple of steaks he brought from the local butcher before heading out to the mountains, so he could use that to distract the beast should it lust for his blood.

As he went further and further into the cave, the light around him started to dim and fade, growing less and less as he travelled deeper into the dark abyss. He pulled a flashlight out of the side pocket of his backpack and turned it on, the small device illuminating the path ahead with a bright flash of light.

He continued onwards, walking through twists and turns as he noticed something up ahead. Torches adorned the walls of the cave, flames flickering atop them, lighting up his way. He turned off his torch to conserve the batteries as he followed the lit path. Eventually, it brought him to a huge chamber, which was adorned with piles of gold, silver and jewels, some piles touched the high ceiling above him as he looked on in wonder.

"Woah...this really is like something out of a fantasy..." He commented as he looked at the mountains of treasure, and then looking back at the centre of the room. What he saw there made his eyes widen in shock and awe.

"No...way..."

In the middle of the cavern, a large, egg-like object stood before him. The surface of it was hard and rough, and the colouration was a light grey, like cement.

"This really is...." He said, running a hand along it's surface. "A dragon egg...but it looks a lot different to the type of eggs I've seen in artwork..." He then noticed something gleaming from the corner of his eye as he turned around.

"What's this?" He said, looking at a small rock, around which there was a small rope necklace tied around it. On the front of it was what looked like the fang of a very large creature. He bent down to take a closer look at it, and noticed a small inscription in the rock around the pendant.

"Warning: Not to be worn by Muggles!"

"Muggles?" Peter asked, confused. "The hell is a Muggle?" He said to himself as he picked it up. The fang gleamed a little in the cave's low light, giving it an almost magical appearance.

"Maybe it's a momento for whoever came all this way..." He pondered, raising the necklace above his head, slowly lowering it down. "Sucks that I couldn't see a dragon in person, but at least I found an egg...and a pretty cool necklace." He said as he placed it down around his neck. He looked over it for a moment, studying the fang. Whilst he had no idea what creature it came from - perhaps it was from a dragon, perhaps it wasn't - it would make a nice momento of his trip. Or so he thought. As he was about to leave, it began to glow.

"The hell?" He gasped, noticing the glow become slightly more fierce. The fang seemed to hover above his chest for a few seconds, the fang pointing towards his chest. A few seconds later, the tooth drove itself into his upper chest, narrowly missing his vitals.

"GGggg..." He groaned, a small trickle of blood seeping from the wound, staining his shirt. The small strand of rope that the fang was attached to dissappeared as the wound closed itself.

"The..the hell was that about?" He asked, looking at the drips of blood that stained his shirt.

"Well so much for a momento..." He started to turn to leave, but then clutched his chest in pain. "Aaahh..." He groaned, dropping to one knee as the pain spread throughout his body. The waves of pain continued to spread, reaching his core and forcing him to hands and knees, the sheer force of the pain almost making him black out. Moments later, as quickly as it began, the pain left his body.

"Ok...that wasn't normal..." He moaned as he pushed himself up off the ground. "Well at least it's over now..." He said as he stood back up, wobbling a little from the aftershock of the pain. His legs felt weak after the onslaught of pain that wracked his body, and he almost fell forward again, catching himself against the wall of the cave. That is when he really noticed something weird.

"The...hell..." He stared at his hand, noticing the fingers had grown a little longer, the skin cracking up and peeling away. He moved his fingers a little, and the skin fell away, revealing what looked like midnight-black scales along his elongating digits. They were soon twice their normal size and still growing, a thick brown webbing starting to fill the spaces between them. The tips of his growing fingers gained long, bone like claws which protruded a bit further where the webbing ceased.

"The...</b>HELL</b>..." He gasped as his hands cracked and realigned themselves, his arms starting to grow longer and broader, the same webbing that grew between his fingers spread out a little, a patch growing along the inside of his elbows whilst on the underside of the arm it had started to grow downwards towards his torso, seeking to connect to the sides of his body.

His clothing began to grow tighter around him now as he began to grow in size, quickly reaching the 10ft mark and going beyond that. His shirt tore away as his chest barreled outwards, ribcage expanding with each breath he took, the scales turning a light brown in colour as they covered the front of his torso.

"This...how is this happening?" He said, noticing his voice had grown deep and growly, coming from his larger chest. He then tried to move his arms, now large wings. He had a bit of trouble moving them at first, the limbs had grown around four times of what they were as human arms, and the 'fingers' were around 20ft long. His trousers started to strain against his legs as they began to grow large, more haunch-like as his shoes split open, toes growing larger, some of his toes fusing together into three talon-like digits, deadly claws growing from them as they sank into the cold stone like a hot knife through butter, an additional claw lining his heels.

"This is just nuts..." He was trying to keep his balance now, his altering form and posture made standing up quite hard untill a bump formed at the base of his spine, quickly growing outwards, growing thinner towardsthe tip as his extending spine granted him a long, powerful tail. The end of it grew broader, a thick, arrowhead-like projectile tipping it, seveal spikes lining the sides of it.

His growing spine also resulted in his neck growing longer, his head being lifted several feet away from his shoulders as they grew broader, arms getting thicker as they gained powerful muscles that would aid him in flying. He also found that his spine had grown much more flexible now, and could twist his body around easily without discomfort.

"It's got to be almost done by now..." He commented, looking over himself. He had to be 50ft tall by now. The scales crept over his face, black on the top and light brown under his jaw as his hair fell away, his face starting to push outwards, lips growing curved. His nose sank into his upper jaw, nostrils flaring wide as they sat atop his now beak-like maw.

His human teeth fell out from his jaws, clinking against the cold stone as dagger-like fangs filled his draconic muzzle, his tongue growing longer and thicker to fit his new mouth, the tip growing to a point. His eyes were forced to the sides of his head as his muzzle finished growing, his hazel eyes turning a feral yellow as the pupils drew into thin slits.

He looked over himself and his new form, letting out a sigh of releif as he believed the changes to be over.

"Finally...that was painful-AAAARRGHHH!" He roared as his body was wracked in pain once more, this time all over his back and head. He arched his back in agony as without warning and a slight shower of blood, several dozen spikes grew from his back, starting off small towards his tail, getting larger and larger towards his upper back, larger still around his neck, which was almost fully covered by the spike-like bones.

The worst pain then came as the spikes grew around his skull, taking up the most of it as his head was surrounded by deadly weaponry. The largest spikes grew from the middle of his skull, the area around his eyebrows extended as they formed, forming over the top of his eyes.

"Aahh...damnit...damnit..." He growled, the pain fading away. "Is it over now..." He stood up on his hindlegs and looked over himself, not quite knowing that to say at the sight of his now draconic form. He seemed to have mixed feelings for it, part of him was enjoying it, whilst a small part of him was lamenting the fact that he had become a wyvern, but that was overidden by the fact that he was quite a dangerous looking one, what with the numerous spikes lining his spine.

"How am I going to explain this to everyone..." He thought to himself, his thoughts cut short by the sound of flapping wings echoing throughout the cave. "Oh boy, this WILL be hard to explain..." He said under his breath.

"Who's there..." a feminine voice calling towards him. Peter could have stayed silent, but he knew he would be caught anyway. He sighed and started talking.

"I'm sorry, I wasn't meaning to intrude on you, but I was told that a dragon had been seen around here..."

"So someone actually replied to that mail I had someone send out..." The voice chuckled, getting closer. "Who'd have thunk I'd actually attract someone here... But who are you..."

"My name...my name is Peter... Once again, I'm sorry." He spoke as the caves main resident, a femle dragon who looked to be a few feet shorter than him, came into view.

"Another dragon?" She gasped, a little surprised. "This isn't what I had in mind...unless..." She noticed the stone where the necklace once rested upon, now bare. "You...you put that on? It actually did something beside lead the wearer to their death?"

"Death? What do you mean?" Peter asked.

"Oh, some wizard had the weird idea that they could create a charm that would let them tame and befriend a dragon. The first wizard was killed on the spot, and the other four that came here and put that on met a similar fate..." The dragoness eyed the larger dragon. "Do you...do you have any magical skills?"

"Magic? That actually exsists?" Peter said, confused.

"You don't..." She responded. "I just thought that warning they left on the rock would mean that a non-magical human would not be able to harness its powers, if any... I guess they instead created a spell to transmute a human into a dragon." She chuckled. "Well I'll be."

"So...so what now?" He looked at her. "How am I meant to go home, looking like this?"

"Well, you could always try to find a cave or mountain closer to where you live, if anything."

"And what about you...are you alone, or are there others?"

She sighed. "I am the only one here. I had a mate, but he was taken by a group of wizards to be used in some sort of tournament...that was several years ago, and I haven't seen him since..." She lamented.

"Well...if you are alone, I could stay with you...who knows, we could form a relationship. If you are comfortable with that."

She looked at him for a few moments before smiling. "Yeah, that might be nice..."

CRACK!

Their attention was quickly drawn to the egg, which had split open down the middle, a small scaly head poking out between the cracks. It purred a little as it lifted its spikeless head at his mother - and new father. The two dragons smiled softly at the new born creature.

"Well well." Peter chuckled. "Turned into a dragon and now a father...No way I'm going to forget this trip any time soon!"
This is my entry for :iconkurokarasu:'s Kiriban Tiebreaker. The subject she chose for it was a TF into a Hungarian Horntail dragon from the Harry Potter books. I didn't make it a fanfiction, but I think I put in enough refrences to the books to make up for that :P

The tiebreaker will be decided via a voting system which I believe Kuro will set up. I'm sure I've got your backing on thi though :)

Story is (C) Myself
Hungarian Horntail and all Harry Potter elements are (C) J.K. Rowling and Warner Brothers.
